Mother’s Day

Everyone has a mother.  Some may have more than one: birth mother, adoptive mother, foster mother, step-mother, mother-in-law, surrogate mother, etc.  Some may not know their mothers.  But we all have one.  One woman who, for better or worse, brought us into this world.  That may have been the end of her involvement.  It may have been only the beginning. Regardless, she offered us a chance at life.

My mother has been a lot of things to me over the years: doctor, cook, maid, drill sergeant, teacher, activities coordinator, playmate, judge (and jury), house constructor, chauffer, reader, ear to listen, shoulder to cry on, kick in the pants, cheerleader, fan and friend.  I have probably missed a whole lot.   I have one of the good mothers, one that’s more than a mother: she’s a mom.

It seems silly to have one day set aside to honor moms.  As one of my co-workers says, EVERY day should be mother’s day.  Moms do so much for us, that we can never pay it all back by a card and some flowers on one day.  Not that I don’t recognize the day, but it should only be one of many times that we let our mothers know how much we love and appreciate them.  It should be an everyday occurrence.

So, happy Mother’s Day, Mom.  Today and every day!
